I have both good and troubling news to share with you regarding a concept that is essential to comprehending the heart of God for “oneness” between Jewish and Gentile believers. The good news is that there is an increase in awareness of the concept of the “One New Man”. The troubling news is that some expressions of the “One New Man” are inconsistent with an accurate biblical interpretation.
I will give you a basic standard to understanding this important concept. There is rich theology that undergirds and explains the “One New Man”, however, I will give you a basis for recognizing the biblically correct concept. The two foundational scriptures are John 17:20-21 and Ephesians 2:14-15:
John 17:20-21 New American Standard Bible (NASB)
20 “I do not ask on behalf of these alone, but for those also who believe in Me through their word; 21 that they may all be one; even as You, Father, are in Me and I in You, that they also may be in Us, so that the world may believe that You sent Me.
Ephesians 2:14-15 New American Standard Bible (NASB)
14 For He Himself is our peace, who made both groups into one and broke down the barrier of the dividing wall, 15 by abolishing in His flesh the enmity, which is the Law of commandments contained in ordinances, so that in Himself He might make the two into one new man, thus establishing peace,
The essence of the concept results in a vibrant physical relationship between a Jewish and Gentile (non-Jewish) believer in Jesus (Yeshua). Any presentation of this concept that does not conclude with a physical relationship between Jewish and Gentile believers is simply false. We are living in a nation that is plagued with division. The Apostle Paul tells us in Ephesians (shown above) that the result of the “One New Man” relationship will be a state of national peace. This considered; I am blessed to see the awakening and acceptance of this critical biblical concept.
